Praktikus tippek egy rönkház esztétikus berendezéséhez

Amikor egy rönkház berendezése a feladatunk, akkor a bútorok, az anyagok, a színek, illetve a dekorelemek mellett bizony a lámpatestek kiválasztása is nagy súllyal lesz jelen a végeredmény alakulása szempontjából.

A cikkben igyekszünk néhány praktikus tippet szolgáltatni mindegyik aspektushoz annak érdekében, hogy a berendezett rönkház összképe akár túl is szárnyalja az előzetes várakozásainkat.

A rönkházak berendezése kapcsán leginkább szóba jöhető anyagok

New premium brand at Decathlon: Van Rysel

Decathlon introduced new brands for its cycling products in 2019. The premium end of the road range will carry the Van Rysel label, these bikes and cycling accessories will cater primarily for the performance oriented road rider.

In previous years the name B’twin became synonymous with cycling. Few in number are not aware of this brand or its linkage to the French sport equipment giant. However, as of this year the management at Decathlon decided to segment its product range, each sport receiving a specific brand identity. Not only the specific labels undergo a change, but the structure of the company will follow suite. Consequently each branch of sport will have its own dedicated team within Decathlon. The members of the teams will be chosen according to their preferred sport, harnessing their expertise and motivation in the field.

Cycling is not considered one sport by Decathlon. It’s been separated into three main segments: road cycling, MTB and leisure riding. The mountain bike segment will run under the Rockrider brand name which has been used extensively in previous years. The leisure division will carry the Triban marque which also includes the entry level road market. The performance segment of the road biking range gets completely new branding: Van Rysel. Not a French name by the sound of it, in fact it comes from Flemish denoting the expression “from Lille”. As we have previously reported, the Northern French city of Lille is where the cycling headquarters of Decathlon is based.

The breakdown of its sports range signals a change in attitude at Decathlon. The rebranding provides greater focus on the given branch of sport, with similar shift in attitude in product development. The consumer is the greatest beneficiary of the change, since products will be designed by members of the organization who have extensive experience in the given sport. Just think of how much difference it makes when a road bike has been the work of an engineer who regularly takes on the tarmac roads, and conversely MTB equipment has been developed by an avid mountain biker!

The Van Rysel brand was introduced at the Velofollies bike exhibition in Belgium early this year. We had the opportunity to take part at the event which turned out to be a great spectacle. In the first year, Decathlon aims to communicate the new image and design through clothing and various cycling equipment. This came with quite kick despite the fact that the top-of-the-line bike models remain technically unchanged from the previous season, receiving by and large a new paint finish to reflect the Van Rysel design concept. On the other hand, a new concept bike was also revealed at the event, which served to demonstrate where the brand would like grow in the coming years.

Taking a glance at the concept bike was a bewildering experience for most visitors. It’s hard to associate such futuristic design to the present Decathlon image. There are more than a few truly innovative technologies found on this display model, such novelties are generally in the ballpark of major cycling brands with vast R&D background. We were told that most of the technology is not yet production-ready, nevertheless we could certainly expect such level of innovation from Van Rysel bikes in the near future.

It’s also interesting to note how Decathlon envisages the future of performance road bikes. The French company places great emphasis on aerodynamics: every single aspect on this concept bike reflects this objective. The handlebar is fully integrated, the cables are well-concealed, and a computer developed in house is built into the “cockpit”. Furthermore, the bottle cages seem to be integrated into the frame, which we cannot recall ever having seen on production road bikes. Personally I’m very curious how many of these features will be retained in the final production version. If the majority of these innovation make it to the market, Decathlon will have a truly spectacular bike in its range!

Turning our attention to the other Van Rysel bikes on display, we instantly recalled what we’ve written in the review the B’Twin Ultra 900 CF last year. The bike turned out to be a great up-to-date road rig offering an incredible bang for the buck, but we had to observe the fact that: “we only get a B’Twin logo on the frame and not an established big brand name with a long-standing tradition in road bikes.”

From now on the humble finish and the divisive B’Twin brand image is gone, we get a much better looking modern road bike with a new fresh image, and a name that sound so much better than the previous one.

In accordance with the Van Rysel bike range a new clothing collection was launched, offering a coherent esthetic design at a very competitive price. Decathlon finally abandoned the previously seen dreadful colors, replacing them with a truly elegant, trendy look. The outcome speaks for itself!

We’ve also seen the Van Rysel logo on some astonishing new road helmets and shoes. The latter could be considered the real big shot, a top-of-the-line road footwear presenting the most advanced features of current shoe design. It has a full carbon sole, a turning dial closure and a very competitive price tag. In fact, this very model was worn by the winner of a stage at the 2019 Giro d’Italia!

Next to the previously mentioned concept bike stood a manikin dressed in a stunning hi-tech kit. Similar to the bike, Decathlon was showing us where it would like progress regarding cycling wear in the coming years. Thus we may see an aerodynamic skinsuit with biosensor technology, a time trial helmet and aero shoe design in the near future. The French big box store may be cutting off more than it can chew, but who are we to critique such ambitious deeds!

Van Rysel will have a full collection of bikes and cycling wear designed especially for women. The collection will have the same technical level and quality of the rest of the range, the only difference being the target audience. The bikes will feature women-specific frame geometry, equipment best suited to the female anatomy and clothing that most women would enjoy wearing while out on a ride. On the rather frugal cycle-wear market in Hungary, women are especially advised to visit a Decathlon store to find a proper selection of outfit. In the next installment we’ll take a closer look at the women’s range.

GT Grade review: Ride where the road ends!

Hearing the GT brand, older mountain bikers look back with gleam in their eyes. The long-established American bicycle maker was significant figure in the technical development of MTB bikes in the 1990s. On the other hand, not many are aware that 30 years back GT has been offering an out-and-out gravel bike as well. Though a direct descendant of its forebear, the Grade is miles ahead regarding technology and design.

The past few years saw gravel bikes gaining wide-spread popularity. Nowdays almost every major brand has such a model in its lineup, the gravel segment made long ways from a niche product to becoming one of the hottest trends. GT was among the first manufacturers to embrace this style of riding. They didn’t just jump on the bandwagon as most, GT has always believed in the raison d’etre of gravel riding. The Grade model series is the latest embodiment of this endeavor.

The soul of the Grade is the HIGH MOD CARBON MATRIX frame, which bears marks of GT’s hallmark triple triangle design. GT bikes use to exhibit this unique shape for decades, which clearly set them apart from the competition. Technological advancement caused this visual cue to become somewhat vague lately, but has resurfaced here on the Grade much to the delight of onetime fans of the iconic American brand.

I wholly embrace that engineers at GT haven’t overcomplicated the cabling. The external routing on the Grade promises easy maintenance and servicing, which is always a useful trait for a gravel rig. When you’re far away you are from civilization, it does make sense to be able to repair shifting and braking without disassembling the complete bike. And although the bottom bracket adheres to the PF30 standard, it utilizes reliable threaded adapters. There are not a lot of attachment point for bags and accessories, but this shouldn’t be noticeable deficiency: nowdays most bike touring accessories are mounted directly to the frame, the handlebar or the saddle so installing a rack is more or less unnecessary. Hence the threaded eyelets found on the frame could be used for mounting mudguards.

There are many model variants of the Grade, set apart purely by the finish and the choice of components. So the frame is the same all across the range. Our test model was set up with a Shimano 105 group set, save for the brake system which is the RS505 non-series hydraulic variant. Disc brakes are mandatory for this bike category, as ride conditions on gravel trails can be dicey.

Concerning the wheelset, GT took the unmatched route by putting a 15mm thru-axle on the front and conventional QR axle at the back. In fact both solutions are somewhat outdated as the 12mm thru-axle became the prevalent standard for gravel bikes. Not a major problem for now, but perhaps in a few years’ time sourcing spare wheels may become a challenge. (The recently introduced revamped Grade adopts the 12/12mm thru-axle!) The tire choice demonstrates that GT didn’t anticipate this model version to be an out-and-out off road bike. The Clement Strada USH 32 has a very low tread qualifying them primarily for asphalt and well-maintained gravel roads. In fact the tires proved to be less than capable on tougher trails, and there is not much room in the frame to mount wider rubber either. (I recon a 36mm wide tire just about fits.) This may limit the capabilities of the Grade somewhat, but it all depends on what the rider wants from a gravel-oriented bike…

The carbon seat post relaxes the rear end, and it’s topped by a WTB Silverado saddle. At the front the hallmark flared drop bar shows the gravel nature of the Grade. This setup offers more stability for off road ventures, and comes especially “handy” on steep descends. The bar shape may appear a bit strange or road bike riders, but the functionality it offers is undeniable.

The GT Grade handles exactly the way a modern gravel bike should. It’s fast and easy to maneuver providing sufficient comfort to boot. The relatively narrow 32mm tires are not as harsh on gravel roads as the low volume would suggest. As they may actually fit into some modern road frames with disc brakes, demonstrating that the line between gravel and road bikes are getting narrower. Apart from the comfort-enhancing accessories, the frame itself has good dampening properties as well, maybe due to the triple triangle design.

Although the Grade is marketed as a proper gravel bike, frame geometry is far from sluggish like in case of a touring bike. Quite the contrary: it’s fast and agile, furthered by the low tread tired. It doesn’t quite reach the handling character of performance road bikes, but most road riders would miss very little in this regard. On the other hand it affords the chance to ride on unpaved roads, possibly tackling some well-maintained trails as well. If you’re looking for this experience, the Grade might be your best choice among the new crop of gravel bikes on the market.

The Grade has just one weakness: the frame cannot take properly wide rubber. As a consequence it’s not suitable for technical trails and gravel roads enshrouded with coarse rocks. This limitation may not relate to your surroundings or riding style. Of course 650B wheels topped with 47mm tires have a place on the market, but riders looking for such equipment may be served better with a proper mountain bike. Actually the drop bar setup might be more limiting than tire size. (Editor’s note: We’ve just got word that the new Grade soon hitting the stores will be able to accommodate wider tires for enhanced functionality.)

The GT Grade could be considered a universal bike. It’s on the light side of the current gravel trend, making it more apt at touring, road training and everyday bike riding than some of the more specialized models. It’s a bike which could be ridden around Balaton, taking into consideration the quality of the road surface in some of the lakeside areas. Aboard the Grade there is no need to turn back when the paved road suddenly ends!

A cukorbeteg gyerekeket segítette a Balaton körüli bringázás

Számos modell közül választhatunk a csomagtartók tekintetében is, egészen a duplakorlátos megoldásoktól kezdve, az alkalmi, nyeregcsőre rögzíthető modellekig bezárólag rendelkezésre áll a gyártó szortimentje. Egy demonstráló videó jobban be tudja mutatni számunkra mindezt, nem is szaporítom tovább a szavakat:

A táskán lévő megoldások magukért beszélnek.

A táska 600d poliészter anyagú, ami hatékony vízlepergető tulajdonságot ad. Erősen párnázott, merev EVA hab anyagú merevítései jól védik a fő rekeszbe helyezett tárgyainkat.

Neuzer Courier Adventure review – It’s time for an adventure!

The well-established Neuzer bike brand has updated its popular cyclocross-fitness Courier model. This entry level multi-purpose bike has gone through many iterations in the past two decades, the newly revamped version offers gravel-riding capabilities along with the potential amateur for cyclocross racing, touring and daily commuting. It’s now available in both disc and rim brake versions the wheels are furnished with gravel style tires. Let see what we get for a surprisingly modest outlay!

We should begin the inspection with the frame. It’s constructed from 6061 series aluminum alloy, which is reassuring as it provides not only great strength but less rigidity, thereby enhancing comfort. The fork is a simple steel affair, which won’t win any favors among the weight-weenie crowd. Together they form a stable chassis, strong enough for tackling gravel roads as well as general bike riding on hard surface roads. It also provides a ride experience free of excess vibration, which in itself is a great achievement from the designers. The rather narrow 27.2mm seat post also assists in taking out some of the road buzz. The headset is the age-old semi-integrated type and the wheels are secured with conventional quick release axles. At this price it’d be silly to expect thru-axles and other high-end technology. On the other hand, the frame tube profiles are quite elaborate, demonstrating that some effort was made to make the bike both compliant and aesthetically pleasing. Moreover the bottom bracket feels very solid when pedaling out of the saddle, and the rear end employs beefy but internally hollow dropouts. The frame is certainly a well thought-out design belying the bikes modest price tag.

Shifting and braking duties are carried out by Shimano Claris components, comprising of 2×8 speed Claris brake-shifters, front/rear derailleurs and matching mechanical disc brakes. Drive components include the Shimano HG30 cog set paired with a KMC chain and finally an integrated crankset called “OUNCE” with an oversize axle. All components seem to work well in harmony, shifting is smooth and noise-free. Although Neuzer made some concession in the choice of components, the end result is surprisingly good.

The wheelset delivers all that we can expect at this price level, but there is nothing to write home about. The hoops comprise of Assess (Quando) hubs laced with trendy black spokes to Remerx rims topped by 35mm wide Mitas (ex-Rubena) tires.

The accessories are non-branded parts, the stem and handlebar both indicate modern design. The seat post on this test bike is rather basic affair with a pressed steel clamp. We were told by the manufacturer that the final production Courier Adventure model will come with a higher spec post. The saddle comes from Velo, which proved to be quite a comfortable companion during my rides. It’s actually a mid-range offering with strong and light Cro-Mo steel rails.

Since I have written so many good things about the bike, the reader may rightly ask: “Where is the catch?” I’m a bit puzzled too, since I cannot really criticize anything in view of the Courier Adventure modest price tag. Nothing seem out of line, there are no grave shortcomings to report on. This no-nonsense bike rides well, shifting and braking performance is on par with mid-range bikes, and it tends to provide more comfort than most gravel bikes I have ridden. All in all, I wouldn’t hesitate a moment to award it a “Best Buy” tag.

There are some minor details that I would have done differently: such as the rear mech’s cable stops and the radius of the chain stays. The manufacturer was grateful for my feedback, promising to implement them in the next generation of Courier models. If I were nit-picking, I may add to this list the bare number of eyelets on the frame, making mounting both a fender and some racks a challenge. It would certainly be helpful to have another set on the seat stays and possibly the front fork for extended touring. Apart from these, I think we have a real hit on our hands, so those who’d like a well-performing bike on a budget finally have a decent option with very few compromises.

Speaking of options, this bike is also available with rim V-brakes as well, and there will be a 650b wheel size version in the pipeline.

Következő eseményünk július 21-én a Bicskén vízen, két keréken, ahol a Bicske Önkormányzata támogatja a szabadidősport népszerűsítését.

A Team Ineos új csillaga is majdnem a földre került – Bernal mentése videón

Kross Evado 10.0 review – Cream of the crop cross-touring bike

Based in Przasnysz, Poland, the Kross brand has definitely made great strides in the recent decade. First they achieved unparalleled success in their homeland, then all over the continent, having significant effect on the bike market in Hungary as well. The brand’s popularity is partly due to the strong presence in the cross and trekking bike category, their models offer extraordinary level of technology and quality paired with reasonable pricing. In the center of this popular segment is the Evado model range, catering for all budgets and expectations from entry level to top spec. I had a chance to try out the cream of the crop among the Evado cross-touring bikes, the 10.0 model.

The Evado 10.0 frame is made from so-called Aluminum Lite material, which is in fact 6061 series alloy. Once properly heat-treated, this material is quite fatigue-resistant, also providing great comfort and low weight thanks to the advanced internal butted technology. Stability is a given based on the large cross-section of the aluminum frame tubes, which Kross designers have shaped to improve aesthetics. The small tweaks in the frame lines are certainly pleasing to the eye, raising the Evado above the competition in this conventionally rather conservative segment of the bike market. Manufacturing quality seems fairly good, most welding joints as nicely finished with a smooth surface. According to current trends, the head tube is shaped and tapered. Cabling runs inside the frame, and Kross should be applauded for mounting high-end Jagwire housing and cables.

Equipment-wise we get an almost complete Shimano XT T8000 group set save for the the Deore-level front derailleur and hubs. In addition, the RockShox Paragon front fork is arguably one of the best units available presently on the market, and as a bonus, it stands out with its golden anodization on the stanchions. Suspension performance is undoubtedly superior to the typical budget fork options on trekking and cross models, but some minor teaks were still needed to realize all its potential – especially concerning rebound dampening. The 65 mm travel provides more than adequate comfort for the given riding style, making biking a pleasant experience even on unpaved forest roads.

The accessories mostly come from Kross’s own range of products, they are well-established parts, tuned more for comfort than outmost performance. Hence the stem gives a significant rise to the handlebar, which also has a comfort-oriented bend. The resulting body position is quite upright, but can easily be modified by altering the setup or swapping out some of the above-mention components. The grips are soft and comfy, but in our experience the plastic clamp attachment is prone to brakeage when the bike is accidently tipped over. A more durable aluminum clamp design would have been a wiser choice for a bike designed for adventure riding. The Selle Royal Lookin Sport saddle fits nicely into the comfort theme with ample of gel padding.

The wheels turn on the conventional ball bearings in the well-proven Shimano Deore hub, they are laced elegantly with black spokes to the double wall aluminum rims. The wheels are topped by Schwalbe Marathon Mondial tires which are neither light or fast rolling, but offer great durability with advanced puncture protection to boot. However I missed the eyelets on the rims, which would have provided more resistance against the pulling forces of the disc brakes. At this price level such skimpy attitude makes no sense in my opinion.

The Kross Evado 10.0 provides the uppermost level in specification for cross bikes on the market with a price tag to match. Very few manufacturers offer this kind of luxury in this market segment – mainly due to the diminishing interest and spending power. We should commend the polish brand for taking the bold move to introduce the Evado 10.0, catering primarily for the customer who has got used to the fine performance and smooth operation of the XT components on a mountain bike. Such cyclists certainly don’t wish to downgrade when buying a cross bike for more diverse riding styles.

I’m not this type of customer. I use diverse bikes for different riding styles, and when I’m riding a multi-purpose type, I have hold no great anticipations component-wise. But I admit, this is clearly a special high-end cross bike. Nevertheless, there are some aspects of the Evado 10.0 which I’d change if it was mine. I feel the stem is too long for a cross bike, and it slows handling by a considerable margin. A shorter stem would provide more agility and a better ride experience. I’d also question some of the set-up choices made by the manufacturer when assembling the bike. The bike is far from ready to ride right from the box, quite a few adjustments were needed for safe and comfortable cycling. This is where the retail shop comes into the picture. Since Kross bikes are sold in LBS and not through mail order, the shop mechanics will have a chance to correct the maladjustments, and set up the Evado for your personal needs. So I advise you to purchase this bike from an LBS, where professional service is available, making riding the Evado enjoyable for many years to come!

The cross-touring bike category offers many advantages, but it has its flipside as well. It can do everything on a decent level, but doesn’t excel at any one type of riding condition. It’s designed for cyclists who don’t want to choose on what road surface they ride, pedaling comfortably where ever the route takes them. For this approach the Kross Evado 10.0 offers full luxury, it has top-tier equipment designed to serve the cyclist for a decade or even longer. As the cost of this model is unusually high in this market segment, those interested is advised to consider its sibling directly below the lineup. The Evado 9.0 costs precisely HUF 100,000 less, making it approximately 20% less expensive, but lacks little in the way of equipment selection. It obviously represents above average performance in the cross-touring category at a more affordable price point.

Recommended retail price: HUF 479,900.
