Gepida Factory Store: Bike Shopping the Hungarian Way

Gepida’s first brand store opened 18 months ago in the vicinity of Móricz Zsigmond körtér. The Hungarian brand renowned for its electric bicycles offers the complete range of Gepida bikes along with a wide selection of accessories, and provides the chance to test ride state of the art pedelec bikes as well as conventional models.

The Gepida Factory Store is located under 39 Bartók Béla street, offering a wide selection of bicycles, as well as cycling accessories from Gepida, Topeak and other prestigious brands. All bike models are available for purchase, including the most recent additions featured in the 2019 catalogue. It is also worth looking at models from the present and previous years, as most of these will be found at a discount price.

On entering the store, a wall-mounted touch screen greets the customer, in order to help in product selection. In addition, it also allows the registration of the newly purchased bicycle on site. The Gepida Factory Store resembles much more a car salon than traditional bicycle shop: we can take a seat and relax in an armchair, while talking to the best bicycle trade professionals with many years of working experience. It provides the potential buyer with a chance to think through the bike purchase, to carefully consider the needs and potential applications, in order to find the most suitable model from the extensive Gepida range.

As we enter the well-designed and furnished store, we first encounter the most popular and advanced type of bicycles, the electric assisted pedelecs. E-bike sales are very strong in Western European countries, this year accounting to nearly 50% of all new bike purchases. Gepida is renowned for their pedelec bikes, and not only in E.U. countries, but as far away as in South Africa or Australia. These electrically assisted state of art machines are available for many different applications and riding styles, such as commuting in the city, bike touring and even mountain biking. Gepida is offering nearly all varieties of E-bikes presently on the market at very competitive prices. For example, a quality pedelec model will only set us back HUF 379,900 forints by choosing the Reptila city bike equipped with a Bafang drive unit!

Notwithstanding, Gepidas’s pedelec bike range is based mainly on the Bosch drive, which no surprise, since many of the elements for this industry-leading electric motor assistance system is manufactured in Hungary. So by choosing a Bosch-equipped model, we are truly buying a domestic product. Another factor which might influence buying decision is that Gepida offers a 2-year warranty on the all pedelec drive systems and lifetime warranty on the bike frames. In addition, if the owner experiences a problem with the bike, the warranty administration process might be quicker than with imported brands.

There is also the possibility to test ride Gepida E-bikes, for either a longer or a shorter period. The brand has a fleet of various models available for this purpose, all year around. Best of all, you do not have to go far to experience what the a state of art pedelec bike can do for you: merely stepping out of the Gepida Factory Store you face the rather steep Ménesi utca, immediately realizing the incredible benefit the technologically advanced electric support makes to your progress. Most riders will be convinced, and to further narrow the choice, the pedelec type and size can be sorted during a few short rides inside this the spacious store. There is no better place to experience what modern bike technology can offer!

Of course, the Gepida Factory Store not only offers bikes, but all the necessary or just nice to have accessories for a more enjoyable cycling experience. In addition to a surprisingly wide range of Gepida branded quality products (helmets, locks, lighting, etc.), the Hungarian manufacturer is also the distributor for the world-renowned Topeak brand, catering to literarily every need in cycling with industry leading innovative solutions. So whether it’s a pocket multi tool to help servicing and maintenance, a mudguard to keep you clean in bad weather, a pump to get you back to the road after a flat tire, lights to make you visible all the time, or bicycle storage devices to help make riding more practical, Topeak has a multitude of solutions to best serve your requirements.

The Gepida Factory Store is also the ideal place to find quality bike bags and other touring or commuting accessories. With youthful colors and trendy patterns, the overall look of bike can be transformed, while assuring that neither the rider, nor his or her belongings will get wet. The Dutch Basil brand offers such accessories (also distributed by Gepida) in order to meet all the requirements of everyday bike transport. Finally, there is also a wide range of cushy saddles to provide maximum comfort for both bike touring and city riding.

Even though the Gepida Factory Store is a genuine bike “salon”, it also offers servicing: the entrance is right next to the shop in the Bartók Béla Street. The qualified and experienced bike mechanics will find and repair every problem which may arise concerning you favorite two-wheeler, whether it’s a Gepida make, or one from another manufacturer.

Christian Prudhomme karmesterként vezényli a Tour mezőnyét…

A Tour szervezőinek régebben is voltak hasonló ötletei, 2009-ben két szakasz erejéig a rádiókat száműzték a versenyből, amire válaszul a versenyzők extra lassan mentek.

Mindegyik modellnél sokféle dizájn közül választhatunk, mindenki megtalálhatja a maga ízlésvilágának megfelelőt. Ezenfelül csapatok vagy nagyobb társaságok számára egyedi, saját dizájnnal is elérhető az egész kínálat.

Shimano 2019 Part 2: Hydraulic 105 and Cost-Quality E-bike Offerings

Shimano 105 R7000 2019

In the first part of this article, we discussed the myriad of advanced features of the new XTR 9100 components, and now we’re ready to dive into the world of road and e-bike novelties!

Shimano 105 R7000 2019

Beside the XTR set we discussed previously, the other dynamite news from Shimano at the Eurobike was the introduction the R7000 105 road group set. Just as we have come to expect from the Japanese brand, the new 105 inherited many advanced features of the higher end models, receiving much more than just a mere facelift. A broad array of technology has been integrated in the progressive midrange 105, the most important for today’s road bike market being the introduction of a dedicated hydraulic brake system. Previously the group set was often complemented with the non-series RS-505 shift-break levers, which was certainly an affordable option, but performance wise and aesthetically below par compared to the rest of components.

Shimano 105 R7000 2019

The brand new 7020 brake lever is much more aesthetically pleasing design and has better handling and feel. There is practically very little difference between this hydraulic ”brifter” and top-end Shimano offerings. The size and the shape is very similar, and the oil bleed port has also moved to the top of the lever, thereby improving hand comfort.

Shimano 105 R7000 2019

The crankset also inherited the design elements of the more expensive siblings, conveying a more substantial impression than on the previous 5800 series. Despite having more pronounced appearance, it manages to be 25 grams lighter. The 4-screw asymmetric spider design is also shared with Ultegra and Dura Ace models, and the familiar chainring tooth combinations are also the same (53-39, 52-36, 50-34). However, the planes of the chain rings have been moved slightly outboard, so the new R7000 is now compatible with the new road disc brakes standard specifying 410mm chain stays and 135/142mm dropouts.

Shimano 105 R7000 2019

Though it received little publicity, the front derailleur of the 5800 series was revamped by the Japanese giant in 2017. The FD-R5801 model already had built-in cable tension adjuster and a compact mechanical design that leaves more room for the tires. Compared to this previous version, the 7000 front “mech” offers little in the way of innovation, continuing to provide all the previously mentioned features with the added wheel clearance.

Shimano 105 R7000 2019

On the other hand, the 7000 series rear is significantly different than its predecessor, as it received the Shadow design familiar from the Shimano MTB range. This offers several advantages: the derailleur body has less protrusion from the plane of the frame, and it can also be used with direct mount frame dropout hangers. My only gripe with this design is purely aesthetic: I feel it’s somewhat difficult to get accustomed to the visual appearance of the new derailleur shape. The RD-R7000 comes in two pulley cage lengths, the short SS version can handle up to a 30T sprocket size, while the GS (middle length cage) can even cope with a MTB-sized 34T cog.

Shimano 105 R7000 2019

It’s not hard to guess that the above-mentioned derailleur variants have their matching rear cassette versions. Shimano will offer an 11-30T model for general use which seems to be a great combination of gears with ideal jumps in between. Apart from the wider gear range, the 11-34T model also has the advantage of being compatible with the previous 10-speed cassette bodies, so it can also be used on older wheelsets, MTB wheels, making it an ideal choice for gravel bikes. In this application the extra wide range is an additional bonus.

The new hydraulic brake system – specific the 105 group set – will come exclusively as a flat mount type. Concerning traditional rim brakes, there is a new direct mount with dual-bolts, as well as a conventional single-bolt version.

Shimano 105 R7000 2019

I find it odd that Shimano continues to produce the R7000 components in two colors: silver and black. Somehow I think the new shapes are less suited to the former, but a design option is always welcome.

Another new development on the road component side is the Ultegra RX rear derailleur, which debuted this year, intended primarily for gravel and cyclocross riding. Available in both conventional mechanical and electric-operated Di2 versions, it virtually copies the Shadow RD+ technology which has dominated the MTB scene for past few years. Just as with its MTB siblings, Ultegra RX features a switch to increase the spring tension of pulley cage. This results in a tighter chain, so there is less chance of accidental chain derailment from the chainring. So it’s well-suited to single ring (one-by) transmission setup. Among the disadvantages is the added weight: the Ultegra RX rear derailleur is approximately 50 grams heavier than the conventional design. Other than this, there is a small loss of efficiency due to the overly tight chain initiating increased friction at the axis of the spring. Despite all these negatives, I would immediately replace an existing conventional rear derailleur on a one-by gravel bike for trouble-free operation. The added bonus is the clutch switch, so – unlike the competition’s offerings – this derailleur can be used in a two chainring setup with a front “mech”.

Last but not least, Shimano announced the expansion of its electric drive range with some more affordable offerings. Although the original E8000 E-bike drive system was fairly late to enter the market, its flawless operation and rational design have cased sleepless nights for the competing brands. Just by looking at the specs, the E8000 motor may not look outstanding, but this proves to be more than sufficient in practice. I will never forget the experience when I rode a STEPS-equipped E-MTB on loose surface, discovering that „drifting” is not unique to specially-built cars! Best of all, the Shimano electric drive system does not take anything away from the cycling experience, it is perfectly tuned to supply just the right amount of torque to assist pedaling.

Shimano STEPS E7000 és E8000

This year, a more affordable E7000 drive model has been introduced, which borrows most of the features found on the E8000 in a more affordable package with very little concession. For example, instead of hi-tech hollow forged crank arms, the new “budget” system is fitted with plain forged aluminum arms, as well as the mode selector switch and display utilizing a simplified design. Concerning power, the E7000 offers 250 W with a maximum torque of 60 Nm. It is not known whether the industry-leading torque sensor and the encoder resolution will see any changes, this is something we’ll only be able to answer once having a chance to take the new system for a proper test ride.

This year also saw the complete redesign of the electric drive intended for trekking and city bikes, this latest iteration bearing the E6100 model name. The motor unit is quite similar to those found on the MTB versions, the weight is similarly 2.8 kg and the installation parameters are also identical. The range of options have seen major improvements: in addition to the standard Shimano display, the new drive system uses ANT + and Bluetooth communication standards with the D-Fly (EW-EN100) unit. So it can be paired with many popular cycling-specific head units from other vendors as well as via smartphones.

Shimano Nexus 5

Additionally, an electronically controlled internal hub gear will also be available under the Nexus Inter-5 model name. It can work in completely automatic mode, where the information from the electric drive system is used to select the most suitable gear during the ride. It adapts perfectly to the terrain and the endurance of the rider, making it ideal for urban and novice bikers.

Another novelty in Shimano’s E-bike drive range is the E5000 series. Having premiered after the Eurobike exhibition, so we have yet to see it or try it in person. It will represents the entry level from Shimano on the E-bike market. According to the manufacturer, all the novelties mentioned in this article will be available from this autumn.

Cube Agree Hybrid C: 62 SL Disc Review – First ever E-road test!

Pedelec E-Road is an interesting but divisive bike category, and we’ve finally had an opportunity to test out one of its “specimens”. The Cube Agree Hybrid is an exemplar of this new genre in bicycle technology, since it received all the important innovations featured on today’s e-road offerings. Naturally we were curious to learn what it’s like riding an electric assisted „race bike”.

The E-Road technology is a relatively new, the first examples of this genre appeared only recently on the market. Special equipment had to be employed allowing manufacturers to offer bikes with an acceptable weight, and more or less resembling traditional road bikes in external design. These innovations make the category such a novelty, since previously these characteristics could be achieved with the conventional motor-assisted e-bike technology. E-Road models are still not too common in the manufacturer’s catalogues or on retail shop floors. In addition. They are generally offered by some brands who could afford to allocate considerable resources for such large-scale, ground-up development. Most well-known manufacturers will only launch this type of bicycle next year, but Cube is among the early birds, alluding to the German brands increasing prominence on the market. As we have already reported during our factory visit, the Agree Hybrid is here among the first wave of E-Road bikes.

As mentioned in the introduction, the E-Road category divides opinions in the cycling community. Even present E-bike users and industry is not unanimous about their role and future potential on the market. The primarily caveat is the 25 km/h top speed for motor assistance dictated by the E.U. pedelec regulations. So a question immediately arises: why would anyone purchase an E-bike, which automatically cuts off power assistance at 25 km/h when most road rides the average speed of 30 km/h or even more? This makes no sense to some, and they are quite vocal about this apparent discrepancy. To understand why these bikes came to existence, one has to set aside the notion of performance-oriented riding, and consider other potential users of road bikes. During the Agree Hybrid test, I often faced this very problem while evaluating the merits and disadvantages of this type bike. Should I perceive Cube’s innovative offering from the eyes of a traditional road bike user, or imagine myself to be those who this model was designed for? Well, I did both, so this somewhat lengthy review will attempt to evaluate this ground-braking model from both perspectives.

Let’s start with the technical parameters! The Agree Hybrid’s frame is made of the same C: 62 carbon fiber as the conventional Agree model, its closest relative being the non-pedelec disc brake version of the Cube’s very successful road endurance bike range. Naturally the electrically-assisted Hybrid had to be altered in one or two places, mainly due to the engine and the battery integration and the more diverse target audience. The chain stay length on the frame was increased by 18mm and the down tube also became somewhat larger in diameter. This part of the frame houses both the battery and the engine. Otherwise, the Hybrid inherited all the technical features of Agree, including the aerodynamic saddle clamp and the lower seat tube and seat stays connection.

For pedelec bicycles, the battery placement is a crucial question. In this case of the Fazua drive system almost all design parameters are predetermined, leaving few opportunities for customization by the bike manufacturer. So the frame had to be designed around the Fauza system, and not the other way around. Hiding the battery still requires considerable engineering, which has been done in an exemplary fashion by Cube. In case of the black frame design, the battery cover is completely unnoticeable, but the model I tested had a white finish. Still only experts will likely to notice the battery, since the two-tone down tube could also be part of the design.

Since the battery and the motor are physically joined, they need no cabling. Both are housed inside the down tube, and can be removed one by one. Of course, only battery needs actually be removed for possible replacement or charging. Cube’s e-bike product manager showed how this is done during our factory visit: it’s really a piece of cake!

The system itself is very light by E-bike standards. The motor and all the electronics comes in at 1.92 kg, while the battery weights 1.38 kg, so the whole Fauza system adds a measly 3.3 kg to the bike. Compared to the E-bike drive systems designed for city riding, touring or E-MTB applications, the Fazua’s motor is marginally less powerful, it produces 60Nm, but on the other hand, there is no need to haul a 25kg bicycle and extra equipment up the slopes. The battery also has a somewhat lower capacity. The 250Wh may seem like a deal-breaker to some, but thanks to the low weight of the drive system and the carbon-frame bike, the longer period of off-use during ride, storing and carrying more power becomes less necessary. Fauza has another special feature: namely the motor unit detaches from the drive system when the bike reaches 25 km/h, so the rider does not have to waste power rotating the motor as with most competing drives. The Fauza motor is controlled from the handlebar via a wireless control unit, which is another advanced function lacking is many drive systems on the market. Pressing the “+” button increases the amount of assistance, and implicitly the minus sign does the opposite. In addition, the display also allows the rider to monitor the battery status

The Cube Agree Hybrid SL model is fitted with the Shimano Ultegra component set, which needs no introduction or detailed analysis. We’ve reviewed the group on its own, and it has been featured on countless bikes here at Bikemag.com. So anyone interested can read about it by entering the “Ultegra” keyword in the site’s search engine. Undoubtable Shimano’s second tier road “gruppo” is a fine choice for this bike, offering everything a road cyclist could ask for in terms of performance, paired with reliability and pleasing aesthetics.

By employing the Fazua system, Cube had make a single concession in terms of component uniformity: hence the bike comes with the custom FSA carbon cranks (CK-8685), which could be perceived as a technical upgrade, but it falls out of the line from the Ultegra components concerning its appearance.

The wheel set on the Agree Hybrid SL carries the Newmen brand name, but it’s actually designed in house by the German manufacturer. Our test bike did not have the final production version (Newmen Evolution SL) of the wheels, which will feature thru-axles both front and back. By the time the Hybrid arrives at the shop, the deficiency will be sorted out by Cube. The tires on the wheel set is E-bike specific, the new Schwalbe Durano E measures 32 mm wide on these rims, it is designed to deal with the added torque of the motor assisted drive.

We had a chance to ride the bike in Germany during our factory visit, Cube kindly organizing a guided bike tour program for the journalist, brand distributors and dealers aboard a fleet of Agree Hybrids. Before the ride, we were shown how easy it is to insert and remove the battery unit. In fact it’s so intuitive, that seeing that a bike had no battery installed, one of the Hungarian shopkeepers installed one in at the first attempt before the presentation started!

The ride included a lot of short climbs, both steep and longer smooth stretches, so it became quite evident how Fazua supports rider power input. Moreover our group comprised riders with different stamina and cycling experience. The first side wind clearly demonstrated who needed motor assist, and who was able to maintain a tempo despite the conditions. Oddly, riders not assisted pulled away from those who had to resort to motor assistance. Hence the group quickly fell apart, and we had to wait up for the others at halfway of the ride. Our bikes used very little charge, though during the stronger wind gusts we also resorted to the assisted mode. Switching between self-power and motor-assist needs adaptation even with the Fazua system.

The motor is clearly less powerful compared to other popular E-bike systems on the market, as even using full assistance doesn’t cause a “jump” when accelerating. It behaves just like a road bike, feels very natural, hence the rider is not constantly reminded being on a „motorbike”. This is something I definitely appreciate. Of course, there is a significant increase in speed compared to normal bikes on steep slopes. Nevertheless, as with most e-bikes, it is difficult to keep a constant speed just under the 25 km/h limit. The cutoff tends to disturb the rhythm of pedaling, and when the assistance shuts off, there is an immediate decline in the tempo. The motor reengagement is also somewhat jerky, so it’s best to stay under the 25 km/h, rather than ride on the borderline. On steep climbs this is not too difficult, but on gentler slopes, we might face the scenario above. But it is worth mentioning that the targeted user will less likely to stretch the boundaries of the motor assistance in the mountains.

After analyzing the Fazua motor, let’s take a closer look at the bike itself! I was somewhat worried that the Agree Hybrid may ride like a trekking city bike, with slow cornering and sluggish acceleration. In reality, the first few turns of the pedal in the parking lot dispelled all my doubts. The bike’s handling is very similar to the conventional Agree, it has similar maneuverability and weight distribution, though its longer chain stays lend the bike a gravel-like character. If the motor is turned off, acceleration is a tad more sluggish than with a “full-blooded” road bike, something you might notice during a fast and dynamic group ride, but it’s absolutely not a deal-breaker.

But let’s get back to the test ride! In the second half of the route, the two groups were united, and the rolling hills allowed us to keep a steady tempo. The weaker riders were nicely assisted on the climbs, so they lost very little ground while reaching the top. So they were not fighting for their lives like in the side wind, and clearly enjoyed the unobtrusive support from the Fazua drive. Looking at their faces quickly answers the question of whether or not there is a place for the E-road bike category on the market. They are the target audience, not those who can pedal with an average speed of 30-35 km/h on flat roads. The novice are happy to keep a more moderate tempo, and it’s often the uphill which causes them the most grief. When the gradient rises, the motor is ready to assist them.

A group ride with cyclist of different abilities and motivation is the least favorable way to demonstrate the merits of this new E-bike segment. If only average, non-athletic persons are present, they would certainly have a blast with no pressure from those who the Fazua drive weren’t suited to, for whom the cutoff speed was more a hindrance than an aid. So the reader should imagine a sport enthusiast watching World Tour races on TV deciding to try out road biking in the flesh. It would come a shock to learn that a healthy tempo on a bike involves a lot of effort, especially in the mountains. Hopping on the Cube Agree Hybrid can provide the TV-inspired person with a great experience, enjoying the pleasures of road cycling on any terrain. But the same can be said of cyclists of age, who cannot make the same effort as in their youth, but still loving the fast tempo. Yes, they can feel young again in the saddle of an E-road bike like the Cube Agree Hybrid!

24 órás kerékpárverseny a híres Le Mans-i versenypályán

A 24 órás autóversenyről híres Le Mans-i pályát 2019-ben ismét birtokukba vehetik az országútisok a nekik rendezett 24 órás versenyen.

2019. Augusztus 24-25-én rendezik a Pearl Izumi 24 órás Országúti Kerékpárversenyt Le Mans-ban a legendás Bugatti circuit-en.

A nevezés 2018.
www.24heuresvelo.fr/en/

A versenynek magyar vonatkozása is van, híres 24 órás versenyzőnk Káldy Attila többször is részt vett rajta. A beszámolókat erről itt olvashatjátok.

A helyszín – Le Mans, Bugatti Circuit

A Circuit de la Sarthe autóversenypálya a franciaországi Le Mans közelében található, hírnévre pedig a 24 órás autóverseny kapcsán tett szert, melyet a múlt század húszas éveitől kezdve rendeznek meg itt. A teljes kör jelenleg 13,629 km hosszú, ezzel a világ leghosszabb pályáinak egyike.

38°C-ban meddig akarjuk lehűteni a lakást?

A minőségi gyártók mind a beltéri, mind a kültéri egységek zajszintjét közlik a vásárlókkal, így előre tudunk tervezni a megfelelő eszköz kiválasztásakor.

A legnépszerűbb játékfegyverek típusai

Ezen fegyverek számos kiegészítővel megvásárolhatók, akár a BestMarkt webshopjában is.

A játékfegyverek tudatos használata
